Get the most out of Cover Your Tail
Cover Your Tail is for anyone who wants peace of mind. People living alone, distance runners, hikers, single parents with demanding schedules - anyone who wants to know that if they can't get to their phone, someone will check on them and the people who depend on them.
We recommend adding at least 3 trusted people to your team. Choose people who aren't always together so someone is always available.
Settings > Notifications > Cover Your Tail. Turn on Allow Notifications and set Banner Style to PERSISTENT so reminders stay on your screen until you respond.
Be specific in your 'Default Instructions' section. This information is only shared if an alert is triggered, giving your team exactly what they need to help. You can also make instructions for each individual check-in.
These are part of the check-in flow. When you create a check-in, you select: 'Number of Reminders' and 'Time Between'. When the time comes for your check-in, you get a push notification. If you miss the notification, you will get your reminders based on those selections. If you select '15 minutes' for 'Time Between': the system will wait 15 minutes after your initial notification to send a reminder. If you're sent a reminder, simply tap on the reminder notification to confirm. If you don't, another will follow 15 minutes later. Reminders will keep showing up until you reach the 'Number of Reminders' selected during set up. If you don't respond to the final reminder, the system escalates. Next up: text message alert. You get a text message letting you know that it is time to check in.
If you miss tapping your notification and reminders, you get the escalation text message alerting you that it's time to check in. If you open the app and click 'I'm OK', nothing happens. BUT if you still have not confirmed 'I'm OK' 5 minutes after receiving the escalation text, the system sends your preset message to your team. After that, it's up to your team to make sure everything is A-OK!
Your selected ('Number of Reminders' x 'Time Between') + 10. Don't worry you don't have to MATH! It's easy… An example: # of Reminders=3, Time Between=15, & Check-in time=9:00 AM. Here's how that timeline would run: 1. 9:00 AM: receive check-in notification. You don't confirm. 2. 9:15 AM: receive first reminder. 3. 9:30 AM: receive second reminder. 4. 9:45 AM: receive third and final reminder. 5. 9:50 AM: receive five minute warning text message. 6. 9:55 AM: text with instructions sent to team members. Total time: 55 minutes
After an alert is sent, you still can (and should) check-in. Once you check-in, you'll have the option of sending out a 'false alarm' message to let your team know that you are okay.
Going for a run or a first date? Use 'Add Activity' for specific check-ins. You can even add a security code for extra peace of mind so nobody else can clear the activity for you.
Heading to a movie, a long hike, or a nap? Tap the 'snooze?' next to your scheduled check-in to snooze it by for up to 24 hours. Your new check-in time shifts from your original scheduled time, not from when you tapped. All reminders and alerts shift along with it.
When you create an activity, you can choose to share your activity location on Google Maps. If an alert is triggered, your team will know where you were when you started the activity. Great for runs, hikes, or meeting someone new.
Use the share button to let the people you care about know about the app. You can find it at the bottom of the Team page, the Profile page, or on the Settings page.
If you ever need to delete your account, go to Profile and tap 'Delete Account' at the bottom of the page. All of your information is permanently removed and you'll be taken back to the login screen right away.
